Munich/Paris – pbb Deutsche Pfandbriefbank, as arranger and agent, and La Banque Postale, as co-arranger, provided in equal shares €160mn long term loans with a maturity of 30 years to the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques, sponsor of the new Sciences Po campus. The transaction is divided in two parts: An acquisition facility of € 80mn provided at end of 2016 as well as a capex facility in the same amount signed in January 2018. The City of Paris, which strongly supports the plan to increase the attractiveness of higher education in the capital city, provided a 75% guarantee for the financing.
The Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques, a private law foundation in charge of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, bought the Hôtel de l’Artillerie from the French ministry of Defense at the end of 2016 with a view to developing the new Sciences Po campus and additionally streamlining its real estate properties. The new complex, linking the buildings Artillerie and 13 rue de l’Université, will represent half of Sciences Po’s area in Paris, with nearly 22,000m². This will bring together all faculties and almost all Master’s students. The new integrated space will be home of ten research centres and seven graduate schools. Around a redeveloped cloister, gardens, library and cafeteria, the academic community will move freely from learning spaces into innovative, flexible, open and connected work and study spaces.
The heritage restoration, restructuring works and new constructions will last 3 years and will be carried out by Sogelym Dixence as developer. The site will welcome its first students in September 2021.
