Garching, 26 August 2026 – Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (pbb Deutsche Pfandbriefbank) will provide ‘‘die developer Projektentwicklung GmbH’ (‘die developer’) with €127 million in financing for the new police headquarters in Essen.

Now that the tender process has been finalised, detailed planning for this major project – the Office Park in Essen’s Bredeney district – can begin. The property has a total floor area of approximately 24,000 square metres, which the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (represented by the Essen Police) will lease.

The building, which has previously been used as a multi-tenant property, is to be thoroughly modernised and refurbished by mid-2029, and adapted to the needs of its future occupier, the Essen Police Headquarters. The building is to be let on a long-term basis. Transformation of the existing building is due to begin shortly.

All employees will be relocating from the historic police headquarters on Büscherstraße (Buescher Street) in Essen. In addition to senior management and the police administration, this includes numerous departments within the Criminal Investigation and Threat Prevention/Operations Divisions. The State Security Division and parts of the Traffic Division will also move to the Bredeney Office Park.

According to a press release from Essen Police, a forensic investigation centre (KTU) will also be established, modelled on the standard set by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). This will include a dedicated vehicle examination hall and just under 700 m² of laboratory and examination space.
